GRAM SWASASHAN ABHIYAN

Strengthening Self Governance through Gram Sabha across 111 villages in Dumka district of Santhal Pargana region in Jharkhand.

The theme of Local-Democracy is a core value adopted by Lahanti from its inception, through which it reciprocates its affairs. “Gram Swasashan Abhiyan” the project on Strengthening Local Self-Governance persists concerns to re-establish the traditional local governance system with community participation through Gram Sabha. It further proceeds towards facilitating the community Rights & Entitlements, Social benefits, community claims, Forest Rights, etc. through Gram Sabha interventions. The project henceforth aims at revitalizing the Constitutional provisions under the 5th Schedule, PESA rule implementation, Jharkhand Panchayati Raj Act, 2001 and others which promotes the traditional and democratic tribal norms in the world of local administration, policy framing, decision making and monitoring the development affairs be undertaken by the Gram Sabha. This also provides the strengthening and promoting the PRIs and the elected representatives and advocates a synergy between the Panchayat system and traditional governance system.

This project is supported by Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives which supports multiple interventions in Jharkhand on subjects like Local Democracy, Community Health, Livelihoods and Education. The three year project “Gram Swasashan Abhiyan” is being implemented from October 2022 in 111 revenue villages of 6 Gram Panchayats of Kathikund block of Dumka district.
